چکیده

Synovial or ganglion cysts are uncommon lesions that may occur within the spinal canal. Over 50 reported cases have demonstrated a preponderant incidence at the L4-L5 level in association with degenerative hypertrophic facet changes ( 1, 2). The typical computed tomography (CT) appearance is that of an epidural lowdensity lesion adjacent to the degenerated facet joint that may or may not have a dense periphery. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging signal characteristics are variable (1). Bony involvement by these cysts has been described in the long bones (3, 4). This report presents two cases of lumbar synovial (ganglion) cysts in which there were lucent bony changes in the adjacent laminae mimicking an epidural tumor.

Presentation of a Rare Case of Bilateral Lumbar Synovial Cysts

Purpose: To report a quite rare case of bilateral symptomatic synovial cysts of the lumbar spine. Surgical resection is usually the cure for this condition. Methods: A 65 year old female patient came to our department, complaining for severe lumbar and sciatic pain. MRI and CT were used to diagnose bilateral synovial cysts. Because of the intensity of symptoms, she was subjected to surgery. Lam...

Hemorrhagic lumbar synovial cyst: case report and literature review

Intraspinal synovial cysts are infrequent causes of back and radicular leg pain. Commonly associated with degenerative spinal disease, the majority of synovial cysts appear in the lumbar spine. Rarely, intracystic hemorrhage can occur through an unclear mechanism. Similarly rare, cysts may also become migratory. The pathogenesis of hemorrhagic synovial cysts remains uncertain and their potentia...

Hemorrhagic Lumbar Synovial Cyst

Synovial cysts of the lumbar spine are an uncommon cause of back and radicular pain. These cysts most frequently present as back pain, followed by chronic progressive radiculopathy or gradual onset of symptoms secondary to spinal canal compromise. Although less common, they can also present with acute spinal cord or root compression symptoms. We report of a case in which hemorrhaging into a rig...

Haemorrhagic lumbar synovial cyst. A cause of acute radiculopathy.

A total of 254 cases of synovial cysts of the spine have been reported in the English literature, but only eight have been associated with haemorrhage. We describe a 55-year-old man with acute radiculopathy resulting from haemorrhage involving a synovial cyst at a lumbar facet joint. Traumatic factors could have caused bleeding around or into the synovial cyst. Treatment by resection of the cys...

Outcome of percutaneous rupture of lumbar synovial cysts: a case series of 101 patients.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT Lumbar facet joint synovial cysts are benign degenerative abnormalities of the lumbar spine. Previous reports have supported operative and nonoperative management. Facet joint steroid injection with cyst rupture is occasionally performed, but there has been no systematic evaluation of this treatment option. PURPOSE To profile the role of facet joint steroid injections with ...
